She was born 11/22/2010 at 12:25 PM
She weighed in at a tiny 5 lbs 15 oz and was 19 inches long (Mackenzie was 9 lbs 7 oz & 20.5 inches)
My c-section went very smoothly and very quickly to my surprise. I was laying on the table talking to my husband when all of the sudden my doc said "ok she will be out in just a second" and I wasn't even aware they'd started! Sure enough, in just a few seconds she was out and screaming and I was bawling my eyes out. The sound of her crying was the absolute best thing I've ever heard. Not only was she crying, but she was loud and her lungs sounded strong. Although we were worried about her lung maturity, everything was perfect when she was born. She didn't need any special attention at all :)
One thing that was pretty sweet...when I was laying on the operating table while they were sewing me up and Mike was in the other room helping them weigh and bathe Paisley, the song "In the Arms of an Angel" came on over the radio they had on in there and I just knew that Mackenzie was there watching over us. I was lying there just quietly singing along and thinking of the daughter that came first...crying of course. Here are the lyrics in case you've never heard the song:
Spend all your time waiting for that second chance
For the break that will make it ok
There's always some reason to feel not good enough
And it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction oh beautiful release
Memories seep from my veins
They may be empty and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
In the arms of an Angel fly away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
You're in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here
So tired of the straight line, and everywhere you turn
There's vultures and thieves at your back
The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies
That you make up for all that you lack
It don't make no difference, escaping one last time
It's easier to believe
In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees
In the arms of an Angel far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
In the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here
You're in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here
We got to go home Wednesday afternoon and everything has been great at home...except my sleeping, lol. My mom has been staying with us and she's been a life saver because if she wasn't here I would not have slept at all. I'm too scared to fall asleep because I'm so scared something will happen to Paisley. I'm scared she'll stop breathing or she'll choke on her spit up or something. It's terrifying. I have the Angelcare Monitor but I'm still pretty paranoid. We'll see how tonight goes :)

So sweet, perfect, and tiny! I can't get over her weight, she was so small! At 37 weeks 5 days when Olivia was born, she was 8 lbs. and I thought she seemed tiny. Love her purple blankie. I am glad she is home and doing well!
ReplyDeleteShe's so adorable. And I can't believe that song came on. How touching.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you, Ash.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! She's beautiful!!! And I'm sure big sister is up there looking over her- and you guys too...
ReplyDeleteI have been following this blog since not long after you started it. As someone who lost two children and struggled for years to finally have a child, my heart sank as I read about both of your losses and rejoiced when I read about your pregnancy and birth of Paisley. There have been many posts when I felt like you were articulating some of the same things I felt when I was finally able to become pregnant with my first born. I wanted to be happy, but was also overcome with fear, sadness and anxiety sometimes. I'm thrilled for you and your family that you will be able to experience all the wonderful things that come with being a parent. Congrats again! P.S. November 22nd is my birthday too :)
ReplyDeletePaisley is absolutely beautiful - I'm so happy for you! The angel song is one of my favorites and how appropriate that it came on at that time. Surely your angel Mackenzie had something to do with that!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy she is here!! She's beautiful! I totally get the paranoia!! I know I worry about Lainey too.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you Ashley! She is absolutely beautiful. Mackenzie is most certainly watching over her little sis. Congrats!

Congratulations on the safe arrival of Paisley. I am so glad she is safe in your arms.
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate to your fear. My daughter is 7weeks today, and I am constantly checking on her. She is never far from me. I'm too scared. Whenever she makes a noise in her cradle I am right there making sure she is ok.
Oh my goodness! She is just precious!!! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your beautiful rainbow!
Congrats! she is a beautiful little girl
